Who Should Have Won the Best Actress Oscar for 1944?

Welcome to the Best Actress polls for WHO Won?!? An Irreverent Look at the Oscars, V. 2: 1944-1952!

Ingrid Bergman took home the Academy Award for her role as the victimized wife in Gaslight:

She beat out Claudette Colbert for the WWII home front melodrama, Since You Went Away:

Bette Davis pulled yet another nomination with her aging society belle in Mr. Skeffington:

MGM handed Greer Garson yet another nomination for Mrs. Parkington:

Finally, the Academy proved they weren’t completely devoid of perception and nominated Barbara Stanwyck for Double Indemnity:

Surprisingly, I couldn’t find any performances the Academy ignored this year.

    • I agree, Talullah won the New York Film Critics award for Lifeboat, I would’ve nominated Judy Garland for Meet Me In St Louis also. This is Stanwycks year by a landslide though.
