marie dressler 5

Marie Dressler was one of the unlikeliest movie stars of all time, and enjoyed an enormous second act in her career with the arrival of the talkies. She won the Best Actress Oscar for Min and Bill:

Irene Dunne in Cimarron (a far better poster than movie!):

I don’t have any other suggestions for Best Actress, but if you do, please mention them in the comments below!
